Concussion Management

A concussion is considered a change in brain function, following a force to the head or a hit to the body in which the head moves suddenly, which may be accompanied by temporary loss of consciousness, but is identified in awake individuals with measures of neurologic and cognitive dysfunction.  Concussions can occur while playing sports, working on the job, motor vehicle accident, etc.  The staff at BAR is using ImPACT[DG1]  Applications, Inc., King- Devick Oculomotor test and the Biodex Medical Systems Biosway Balance  [DG2] Protocol as part of a baseline testing program.  Our Physical Therapist help facilitate your recovery and return to activities of daily living (ADLs), work, recreational activities and even competitive sports.

Some of the therapies used to accomplish the goal of regaining movement and reducing pain, swelling and stiffness may include one or more of the following:


  • Gait (Walking), Balance, Proprioception and Coordination Training
  • Eye Exercises
  • Therapeutic Exercises (Strengthening, Endurance, and Stretching Exercises)
  • Functional Strengthening
  • Manual Therapy (Myofascial Release/ Soft Tissue Mobilization, manual stretching, and joint mobilization)
  • Return to Sport Protocol
